Teacher Guide - Command Center

In the Launch Command Center, you can view course and student information plus data related to their grades and progress in the course using one dashboard. The Command Center also acts as a tool to email students and their associated contacts, create custom contact log notes, and export data and reports associated with the dashboard.

How do I access the Course Progress Dashboard and what does it show? 

Access any course that you have rights to view and find the Command Center option in the course navigation. The course dashboard is updated twice daily.


View the Course Progress Dashboard

The Course Progress Dashboard has different views for Traditional courses and CA/CRC courses. The fields vary slightly for each view.

 

Traditional Courses in the Course Progress Dashboard

Successful Welcome Call log (detail of #10)

  1. Type - This indicates that the course is a Traditional course.

  2. Student Search - Search for either student name, preferred name, or SIS ID. A minimum of three characters must be entered before results will display.

  3. Filters - Allows you to further limit the results displayed in the dashboard. The available filters are: Last Course Access Date Range, Last Submission Date Range, Last Graded Date Range, Welcome Call, and Last Contact Log Date Range.   4. Student Legal Name - Contains the Student Legal Name as well as Preferred Name (if present) as subtext. The row may be sorted alphabetically by clicking on the caret (^) to the right of the header.

  5. Score & Grade - Contains the current score and associated letter grade as determined by the account or course grading scheme. The value acts as a hyperlink to the student’s individual grade page for that course.

  6. 0-Point Asgmts - A count of all assignments that were assigned to the student in which the due date has passed and the score is 0. The “View” text is a hyperlink that will open a modal window that displays the missing assignments in question along with their due dates. 

  7. Last Course Access - A timestamp of the last time the student has accessed the course. This will be blank if the student has not yet accessed the course. Note: Mobile access does not impact this value.

  8. Last Submission - A timestamp of the student’s most recent submission to a graded assignment. This will be blank for students who have not yet submitted to an assignment.

  9. Last Graded - A timestamp representing the student’s most recently graded assignment.

  10. Welcome Call - An indicator whether or not a Welcome Call has been made. Mousing over the “yes” value (a check mark and information icon) will display a timestamp of when the note was made. The value will also serve as a hyperlink to the Contact Log section of the Individual Dashboard. This field will be blank if no Welcome Call has been made.

  11. Last Contact Log - A timestamp of the most recent course contact log note. This will be blank if no contact log note has been made.

  12. Create Contact Log Note - Clicking on this icon will allow you to create a contact log note.

 

CA/CRC Courses in the Course Progress Dashboard

  1. Type - This indicates that the course is a CA/CRC Course.

  2. Student Search - Search for either student name, preferred name, or SIS ID. A minimum of three characters must be entered before results will display.

  3. Filters - Allows you to further limit the results displayed in the dashboard. The available filters are: Last Course Access Date Range, Last Submission Date Range, Last Graded Date Range, Welcome Call, and Last Contact Log Date Range.   4. Student Legal Name - Contains the Student Legal Name as well as Preferred Name (if present) as subtext. The row may be sorted alphabetically by clicking on the caret (^) to the right of the header.

  5. Progress % - This displays the student’s current score from the course.

  6. Status - Will display either “Not Started” (0-59.9% score), “In Progress” (60-99.9% score), or “Completed” (100% score). The data in this column will act as a hyperlink to the student’s Individual Student Dashboard.

  7. Last Course Access - A timestamp of the last time the student accessed the course. This will be blank if the student has not yet accessed the course. Note: Mobile access does not impact this value.

  8. Last Submission - A timestamp of the student’s most recent submission to a graded assignment. This will be blank for students who have not yet submitted to an assignment.

  9. Last Graded - A timestamp of the time of the student's most recently graded assignment.

How do I access the Individual Student Dashboard and what does it show?

From the Course Progress Dashboard, click on the name of any student to access the Individual Student Dashboard.


View the Individual Student Dashboard

You may return to the course dashboard by clicking Course Progress Dashboard in the

upper left of the screen.

  1. Breadcrumb - Indicates the name of the student you are currently viewing.

  2. ID - The Canvas SIS ID of the student.

  3. Next - Navigates to the next student in the course’s individual dashboard.

  4. Contact tab - The student’s contact information and their associated contacts’ information (i.e parents, observers etc.)

  5. Log History tab - The student’s email contacts and log notes.

  6. Course Name - The name of the course and course type as subtext.

  7. Score/Progress - The student’s current score. The icon next to the score is a hyperlink to the student’s individual grade page for that course.

  8. Grade/Status - The letter grade as determined by the account or course grading schema.

  14. Last Course Contact Log Note - A timestamp of the most recent course contact log note. This will be blank if no contact log note has been made.

  15. Email - Click this button to email the student and associated contact(s).

  16. Log Note - Click this button to associate a contact log to the student.


How do I view student/observer contact information and the contact log history?

The Contact and Log History tabs are located on the Individual Student Dashboard, which can be accessed from the Course dashboard.


View the Contact tab

  1. Email - The student’s email address.

  2. Contact Name - The name of the contact.

  3. Relationship - The relationship of the associated contact to the student.

  4. Email/Phone - The provided email or phone number of the associated contact. Note: This information is provisioned in the dashboard by the API Administrator.

  5. Notes - Any notes provided by the API Administrator attached to the associated contact. Example: “Prefers to be contacted in the evening after 5pm.”

View the Log History tab

  1. Course Name - The name and SIS ID of the course.

  2. Author Name - The name of the author of the contract entry along with SIS ID of the author.

  3. Date - The date the contact log was created.

  4. Type - The type of contact log. Example: Email, Welcome Call etc.

  5. Details - A snippet of the contents of the contact log. You may expand this text to view the full contact log.

  6. Pin - As an administrator you may pin contact logs to the top of the page. Solid color pins represent administrator pinned entries.

  7. Export Button - A button that will export a full history of all contact logs for the user.


How do I send email messages from the dashboard?

To send an email to the student and/or their associated contacts, click Email on the Individual Student Dashboard.

  • You can send an email to just the student, or the student and all associated contacts.

    • You cannot send an email only to an associated contact.

  • The message subject line defaults to “Launch Notification” but you can change it.

    • The body of the email is plain-text format.

  • Click Send to send the email and be returned to the Contact Log History tab.

  • Every email will be registered on the Contact Log History tab with the associated course, author, date, and contents of the email. Note: Emails are sent from an unmonitored email address that does not accept replies.

  • If you have sent multiple emails with no response, then it is recommended to attempt a phone call to the associated contacts.


How do I create a Contact Log note?

Contact logs will be logged in the Contact Log History tab, and can be exported in a .csv file.

  1. Click Log Note on the Individual Student Dashboard.

2. Select a message Type (required).

3. Choose a Course from the list that the student is actively enrolled in.

4. Enter your log entry in the text box, which is plain text only, and Save.


How do I search for students and filter the results?

The search feature allows you to search for a student by SIS ID, legal name, or preferred name. You can then filter the results by a number of criteria.


Search for a student

The Command Center student search allows you to search by SIS ID, legal name, or preferred name. To begin searching, you must enter a minimum of three characters. The tool will immediately return an active list of all names that meet your search criteria. Example: The search term “Joh” will return John Adams and Rebecca Johnson.

Filter search results

Expand the Filter accordion to expose the Command Center’s available filters. The most recently filtered view is not saved when you navigate away from the Command Center. Note: Only objects within your view access are available to filter.
