Managing the Canvas Inbox

You can access messages and announcements through Canvas conversations. These conversations might contain important information related to your course. 

You can view your messages by selecting the Inbox icon in the navigation bar on the left, the number next to this icon will tell you how many unread messages you have:

Important Tip: Check for messages and announcements often.

Or in your Recent Activity feed. The small number icon indicates you have unread messages or announcements:

Messaging Your Teacher

Compose a new message by selecting the “Compose a new message” icon:

To send a message to your teacher, choose your course [1], select the contact book to the right of the To field [2], then select your teacher [3].

When you are finished composing your message, click the Send button.

You can adjust your notification preferences to receive conversations using external channels.
