Read&Write
Read&Write for Google Chrome is a Chrome extension that adds a toolbar to your browser. This toolbar only works within Chrome and changes based on the website you're using. It can be docked or floating and will only show buttons for compatible features with the open website.
Read&Write for Google Chrome should already be enabled if you are signed into Chrome using your SPS.org login. If the Read&Write toolbar does not open automatically, either in full or as a tab, you can open it manually by clicking the Read&Write’s purple puzzle piece icon at the top right of your Chrome window.
Can’t see the icon? Click the Extensions icon and check whether Read&Write is in your list of Chrome extensions. If it is, click your toolbar. If the extension isn’t installed, install it from the Google Chrome web store.
One of Read&Write's key features is reading text aloud. You can easily use this feature in Google Docs and many other websites. You can also choose from different voices and reading speeds. Using the Play, Pause, and Stop buttons, you can control what is read to you.
Read&Write has many other features, including a picture dictionary that visually represents a word:
There is also a dictionary that will help you with a student-friendly definition of words. A ‘check it’ feature works as a secondary proofreading tool and a translator tool to translate a word or passage. If a feature is not shown on the screen you are on, that feature will not work on the page you are looking at. If that happens, the best option is to try the screenshot feature.
