Using Course Audio [Students]

Option 1: Course-included audio

In certain elementary courses, course audio is provided within the course. When available, your audio buttons will look like one of these options below:

Option 2: Immersive Reader

The Immersive Reader will show up on all Pages, Assignments, and the Homepage. It is not available in discussions or quizzes. The Immersive Reader will not read any PDFs that are embedded in the page. To start using the Immersive Reader, click the button in the top right corner of your Canvas screen.

Once you click on the Immersive Reader button, your screen will look like this:

Click the blue/green play button at the bottom of the screen to have the text read to you.

Option 3: Google ReadWrite

For additional reading support, you can download the Google Chrome extension ReadWrite. This is capable of reading most text on a Chrome webpage, including PDFs, Google Docs, and Google Slides. When it is downloaded, it will appear in the top right corner of your browser window. The extension looks like a purple puzzle piece.

When you click the ReadWrite puzzle piece, a toolbar will appear at the top of your webpage.

To play audio on a page, click or highlight the area where you want to read text. Then, click the play button on the left side of the toolbar to start reading the text.
