Renaming Google Documents

Renaming Google Documents

In your Canvas course, you may run across links to Google Documents. These might include worksheets, templates, and other resources to use for your assignment(s). The links will automatically create a new copy of the document in your Google Drive.

Use the following instructions to rename your Google Doc.

Renaming Google Documents

Use the following directions to rename a Google Doc.

NOTE - These instructions apply to any Google Doc that has a forced-copy link (Doc, Sheet, Drawing, etc…).

Open the assignment on Canvas, and click the document link. A forced-copy window will appear.

Choose Make a Copy.

Copy Document Example

Your copy is automatically saved to your Google Drive as Copy of [DOCTITLE].

Having “Copy of” at the beginning of your document’s title might get confusing when searching your drive for files.

Click in the title in the upper left corner of your screen and erase “Copy of”.

Copy of Selected Example

Click back in your document. Your change is automatically saved.
